Las Vegas is known for its casinos, buffets, nightlife and attracts people from all around the world to the lavish hotels. However, if you get to the city and are looking to explore a little deeper in nature there is a National Park just outside of the city.

Don’t go unprepared as they now require timed reservations October through May. You can make your reservations on https://www.recreation.gov/ or you can go in June through September with out a reservation.

Once you gain access to the park there is a beautiful visitor center with breathtaking views, but the real majestic scenery starts as you drive down the scenic drive. Make sure you take the first stop and pull off as that was my favorite. The terrain is rough and slopes downhill so make sure you have the right shoes and attire to wear. It can also get a bit chilly, or very warm depending on the season so dress accordingly.

What is known as the ‘scenic loop’ will take you on a 13 mile drive around the canyon. We usually only stay a couple hours and pull off at a few of the stops but if your an avid hiker you could make this an all day thing hiking deep into the trails. We even saw people climbing up the rocks with ropes!

On the first stop we went to Calico I, where we hiked down into the canyon and explored the natural beauty. It reminded me of the Sedona, Arizona hikes with the deep red rocks and palpable energy you can feel when hiking down into the canyon.

Along your hikes you may see different animals and wildlife. We saw some different birds, and bunnies. If you came to Las Vegas for the fun and night life but need some down time to relax and absorb some beautiful scenery I definitely recommend Red Rock Canyon National Park.
